Relished Reads: Books I know and love

They say you can tell a lot about a person by the books they read and the company they keep. Hmmm… With well over a thousand books in my personal library, ranging from gardening to herbal, energy and alternative health references to a collection of dictionaries and a lot of categories in-between, it’s difficult to choose which to include here. So, these are just some of my favorite authors. Their books are friends to curl up with on a cold winter night or take along to a quiet spot out in Nature. I return to them over and over. Clicking on the active links in each entry will take you to the authors’ websites where they share lots of free information, articles and newsletters, in addition to descriptions of their books. Or, if there isn’t a companion website, I’ve linked to a review, since I’m not in the business of selling books for any of them. In case you’re wondering about the sequence of the list, the first four are mentors of mine, so earned top billing here and in my heart. The others are in random order, but all the books provided me with light-bulb moments. The list is a work in progress, just like me.

Dr. Eric Pearl’s The Reconnection®: Heal Others, Heal Yourself – the fascinating and fun story of his transformation, along with instructions on how to use Reconnective Healing® yourself.

Hank Wesselman, Ph.D. (Paleoanthropologist-University Professor-Author-Shaman) — His trilogy chronicles his surprising, personal journey and inspiring exploration of the intersection of science and spirit — SPIRITWALKER: Messages From The Future, MEDICINEMAN: Mystic Encounters on the Shaman’s Path, VISIONSEEKER: Shared Wisdom from the Place of Refuge. His two instructional books, each including a CD, are constant companions of mine — The Journey to the Sacred Garden: A Guide to Traveling in the Spiritual Realms and Spirit Medicine: Healing in the Sacred Realms. Dr. Hank’s Journey to the Sacred Garden is the best of all the various how-to books I’ve ever read for learning  shamanic journeying – it’s an easy and fast read and will have you on your way in no time, riding on the drumming or rattling on the accompanying CD. His two newest books are stellar additions to my reading list:  Awakening to the Spirit World: The Shamanic Path of Direct Revelation (written in partnership with Sandra Ingerman) and The Bowl of Light: Ancestral Wisdom form a Hawaiian Shaman. And if there’s a child in your life, I highly recommend Hank’s Little Ruth Reddingford and the Wolf .

Steven M. Greer, M.D. – Hidden Truth – Forbidden Knowledge – his riveting autobiography. You can read the introduction and first two chapters for free by clicking on his name.

Serge Kahili King, Ph.D. — URBAN SHAMAN, explanation of Hawaiian Shamanic Practice with practical instructions and tools for daily living. Serge has written many other, excellent books sharing his wisdom and techniques for healing.

There are several books available on orbs. The best one I’ve found is The Orb Project, co-written by theologian Miceal Ledwith, D.D., LL.D. and physicist Klaus Heinemann, Ph.D. It details scientific research and has examples of photos so you can tell which are orbs and which might just be moisture “blobs” or fakes, and it gives specific information on how best to photograph them. Edited by J. Douglas Kenyon — Forbidden History. An eye-opener, especially when read with an open mind. There is an excellent, in-depth review here.

Lynne McTaggart – The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe is an excellent introduction to her follow-up book, The Intention Experiment: Using Your Thoughts to Change Your Life and the World, though each book stands on its own. Together, they detail decades of pioneering, scientific research.

Graham Hancock – Supernatural: Meetings with the Ancient Teachers of Mankind. I’ve enjoyed other books by Graham, but this one is the most amazing, starting with his descriptions of ancient cave art around the world, and then, where that journey led him.

“Jeremy Narby, Ph.D., is a world-renowned author, anthropologist and activist. Narby grew up in Canada and Switzerland, studied history at the University of Canterbury, and received a doctorate in anthropology from Stanford University. Since 1989 he has been working for Swiss NGO Nouvelle Planete as Amazonian projects director. He is the author of  The Cosmic Serpent: DNA and the Origins of Knowledge and Intelligence in Nature, among others. His main work is to support and fundraise for indigenous run initiatives in the Amazon. His research into the relationship between the spirit world and the molecular world has acted as a bridge for a whole generation of people throughout the Western world, to open up to shamanism and the indigenous worldview.” Read excerpts of his book here.

James Redfield’s trilogy, exciting spiritual-quest adventures — The Celestine Prophecy: An Adventure, The Tenth Insight: Holding The Vision, The Secret of Shambhala: In Search of the Eleventh Insight. His other books are also wonderful — the non-fiction volumes explain the spiritual insights featured in the trilogy, providing ideas for applying them in daily life. In 2011, he added yet another, long-awaited volume to his series: The Twelfth Insight: The Hour of Decision.

Gregg Braden — The Isaiah Effect: Decoding the Lost Science Of Prayer and Prophecy. I’ve read and enjoyed other books by Gregg, but this one is my favorite.

Neale Donald Walsch’s trilogy — Conversations with God: An Uncommon Dialogue (Books 1, 2 & 3). He’s written many others since, some of which I’ve read and enjoyed; others I haven’t gotten to yet.

Paul James Zack — Do you relish a delicious love story seasoned with a hint of the metaphysical? Well, I can highly recommend one for your reading enjoyment. Paul James Zack just published his e-novel, An Eternal Melody on Kindle.
