Winter Solstice: Light and Oneness

The 2011 December Solstice takes place on Thursday, December 22 at 5:30 Universal Time (UT). That’s the time at the longitude of Greenwich, England.

In Wisconsin where I live, and for others using Central Standard Time, we subtract 6 hours from Universal Time—for us, this solstice is Wednesday, December 21, at 11:30 p.m. CST.

While residents in the Southern Hemisphere welcome their Summer, here in the Northern Hemisphere, we celebrate Winter Solstice’s return of the Light as our day lengths thankfully get longer once again. At first, it’s only a matter of seconds per day, but by beginning-to-mid January, we will definitely start to notice earlier sunrises and later sunsets. In celebration, some photos and verse:

New Season’s Dance

The shortest day of the year is here,
But the longest night is naught to fear.
The calendar turns to twenty-one:
Another season is finally done.
A tick of the clock, a new day breaks,
With a yawn and stretch, Winter awakes.
His wind swirls snow for an ardent dance;
A Tango leads to a new romance.
Jack paints the landscape with frosty lace,
While Earth leans back into the Sun’s embrace.
In her gown of white, she courts her beau–
He’ll melt her heart ‘long with Winter’s snow.
As each day passes, the flame grows strong,
And Spring will be here before too long!

Returning Light

As Mother Earth spins through space,
The rhythm of our life goes on.
Each season in its turn unfolds–
Winter Solstice has come and gone.

Darkest hours are behind us now,
And Ol’ Sol lingers longer each day.
Rejoice as the Light returns
To brighten and guide our way.

Remembering Our Oneness

Man-created holidays dot
December’s calendar pages.
With busy lives, many forgot
The constant throughout the ages.
Regardless of beliefs they hold,
All human beings share the same
Dances of Earth and Sun of old,
And in our Oneness can proclaim:
Happy Solstice to everyone
As we share this moment in time.
Let Loving Peace now begun,
Become our new paradigm.

Happy Solstice!

  6. Thanks for sharing your thoughts through your poetry and pictures my friend.

I’m including below the url for one of my earliest videos “A Fire For You.” (I have 87 posted to YouTube now, many of a spiritual nature.) This particular video has turned-out to be one of my most viewed. Probably in part because it’s been up for so long, lol.) I include it because it’s relevant to your posts here about the Winter Solstice. I hope you have a blessed Christmas and Holiday season.
